ABOUT ME
My counselling journey started over six years ago. I returned to university to earn a Master’s Degree in Psychology in 2019 and then began my training to become a therapist. It left some of the people around me puzzled at the time. It was the last thing they would have ‘expected me to do’ I would hear. I used to joke that I was having a mid-life crisis and like all good jokes, there was more than an element of truth to it.
The science of Psychology has taught me that we are much more similar than we ever are different. The art of Psychotherapy celebrates the individual experience. It’s helped me develop a truly holistic approach with clients, looking at all aspects of their life: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
Being trained as both a Psychologist and Integrative Counsellor means I will employ techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Person-Centred Therapy. I’m not really sure it’s important to know what these terms mean or if it matters when you’re looking for a therapist. Simply, I believe that the client is the expert in their life and deep down they know what is best for them. I serve as a facilitator or companion to explore and find your true self.
I feel that sharing knowledge through psychoeducation is incredibly valuable. Encouraging my clients to ask questions and seek answers, so they can to some degree, become their own counsellor. Moving through life with more agency, creativity and confidence that they can handle the inevitable difficulties that come with the package of being human.
